Our appointment scheduling is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. We utilize appointments for surgical procedures, grooming, lodging, and vaccinations. Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. Illnesses are not handled on an appointment basis. However, please call to determine a convenient time to arrive in order to lessen your wait. Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come to the hospital immediately.
Usually an emergency team consists of at least one veterinarian and several technicians working together to save a pet's life. Emergencies can be things such a snail/rat bait poisoning, hit by car, organ failure, or chocolate ingestion. If you feel that your pet needs emergency treatment please call (870) 856-3243 if possible before coming in so that a team member can advise you on your particular emergency. If the doctors are not available due to caring for other emergencies or being in surgery, we may recommend contacting another veterinarian to administer emergency care to your pet. Several veterinarians are available in Mountain Home, Jonesboro, and Batesville that we highly recommend. For emergencies after hours, we recommend calling the doctors at their home (870) 856-3824. If they are available, they can make arrangements to meet you at the office to care for your pet. If they are not available, we recommend calling another veterinarian to care for your pet.
We also treat sick pets for urgent care conditions when circumstances are not life-threatening. Please try to call (870) 856-3243 before coming with your pet as many times the doctors can be involved with other emergencies or surgeries and your wait could be substantial. Our staff may be able to schedule an appointment that day or our veterinarians may be able to examine your pet in between scheduled appointments if at all possible. When you arrive, our receptionists can give you an estimate of how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.
Most pet owners do not realize their pets can develop dental disease. Gently lift a lip and look at your pet's teeth. Are they pearly white or covered with brown tartar? Does your pet have bad breath? If your pet has foul breath, let us examine that mouth and advise appropriate dental care. The doctors utilize a state-of-the-art dental unit providing an ultrasonic scaler and mechanical polisher to clean your pet's teeth along with Laser Therapy treatments to reduce inflammation and increase healing speed. If you have questions or want to schedule a dental exam for your pet, please call Shaw Veterinary Clinic at (870) 856-3243.
Grooming and Bathing
We offer pet grooming and bathing on an appointment basis Monday through Friday. Our groomer Mallari will discuss the various options for your pet's haircut along with special shampoos that may be needed. We offer medicated baths for those dogs with certain skin problems. In addition, Mallari will alert the doctors if she notices a problem with your pet's skin, eyes, or ears. The doctors may call you while your pet is in the hospital for grooming to discuss these problems and offer treatment options. To schedule an appointment or speak with Mallari, please give us a call (870) 856-3243.

Ultrasound and Radiography Referral
We sometimes utilize Dr. LeaAnn Pack for a second opinion on your pet's radiographs or as an option for a mobile ultrasound on your pet. Dr. Pack grew up in NW, received her veterinary degree from Louisiana State University, and completed a diagnostic imagining residency at the University of Georgia. She is owner of Southland Vets based in Lake City and we are proud to partner with her to offer your pets the very best veterinary medicine can offer.
We offer a wide variety of surgical options ranging from spaying, neutering, and dental procdures to some orthopedic surgeries. LeAlyson Bailey assists the doctors with surgery and monitors your pet's vital signs. LeAlyson also administers therapeutic laser treatments to the incision sites post-operatively to induce a biological response that leads to reduced inflammation and increased healing speed.
Therapeutic lasers work through a process called photobiomodulation in which photons from the laser interact with target cells to stimulate biochemical changes. Photochemical effects occur when laser light is absorbed by chromophores (the light absorbing part of a molecule) within target cells. This cellular mechanism initiates the reduction of pain, decrease in inflammation, and increase the healing of tissues. Therapeutic lasers are effective for treating a wide variety of conditions such as abscesses, tissue infections, anal sac infections, fractures, dental disease, arthritic conditions, ear infections, skin inflammations, and snake bites just to name a few.
Shaw Veterinary Clinic operates an open hospital. This means that our team welcomes owners to be with their animals during minor medical procedures such as a simple vaccination or visit their pets when hospitalization is necessary.
